There's only one word that comes to mind when you read through this yearbook:
Family 250 Production racing is very unique. There isn't a lot of money spent on the motorcycle in order to enter the racing class and top speeds only hit 105 mph. When you put those two things together, you end up with an entry level race class and a lot of people who get to know each other! Over the last few years, the racers in this class have drawn closer together. They pit together, share tips on speed, have workshops to help new racers get their bikes ready, even help each other rebuild a bike when a fellow rider has crashed on a race weekend! It is this camaraderie that has made the class stand above all others. When you beat your fellow racers, they acknowledge and compliment you on your victory. When you crash, they are right next to you making sure everything is okay. they care about you, and they'd rather beat you on the track than have you watch from the sidelines! But what does that have to do with family? |
Here's a sampling of the things they do together: --50% of the race class all pitting in the same area. --20+ people eating dinner together on away trips (Round Table Pizza in Thunderhill, Denny's in Buttonwillow). --caravans driving to race weekends. --chatting on the Yahoo email list (where people even publish race reports after a race weekend). --sitting on the wall during race schools encouraging all the new 250 Prod racers. Here are the unique things you'll find that you won't find anywhere else: --the naked guy won the class championship. --the top 10 all knew each other, and were more than happy to tell/help folks with *anything*. --there were lots of new people on the podium, and everyone was happy they made it. As you peruse through the rest of this yearbook, realize that the effort to put this together was done by members of the 250 Prod family who wanted to remember the year 2000 in racing. Specifically, Gwyn Lewis & Steve Chan, who put in an endless amount of personal time to make this happen. They are a special part of the family that cares to put even more time/effort in so the rest of us can remember how much fun we had racing this past year. The pages that follow will show excitement, passion, and even a few thrilling moments. The year was filled with every emotion known! But there is one key point we will remember at the end of this year: our family is healthy and everyone can return for racing next year! |
